Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry
What is The Academy of General Dentistry?
Founded in 1952, the AGD is a professional organization of general dentists in the United States and Canada, who are dedicated to the goal of lifelong learning. In order to maintain their membership in the AGD, our dentists are required to take 75 hours of continuing dental education over a three year period. The AGD rigidly enforces this standard.
What is a “General Dentist”?
General dentists are the primary dental care providers for patients of all ages. They can treat you and your entire family and care for your overall oral health. This is crucial to your total health! Your general dentist takes responsibility for the diagnosis, treatment, and overall coordination of services to meet your oral health needs.
AGD members challenge themselves to learn more so that they can provide their patients with the best quality care.
All dentists are required to take continuing education (CE) every year to keep their license up-to-date (except in Colorado and Wyoming). When a dentist becomes an AGD member, though, they are required to take 75 hours of CE every three years just to belong to the organization. For a dentist, CE can include courses on a range of topics, from teeth whitening to implants.
