CEREC® Same Day Restorations
At South River Dentistry we often utilize advanced dental technology to help us provide the most efficient and effective care possible. The innovative CEREC® system allows our cosmetic dentist, Jeff Blackburn, DDS, to treat a damaged tooth and create a custom, all-ceramic restoration within the span of one visit to our office. Beautiful, stain-resistant crowns, inlays, and onlays are all fabricated for immediate placement, so there is typically no need for temporary restorations, traditional moldings, waiting on a dental lab, or a return visit to place the permanent restoration.

Benefits of CEREC® Same-Day Restorations
CEREC® restorations can be created using a variety of all-ceramic materials which can differ slightly in strength, color, and translucence. These variations make certain materials more ideal than others for specific applications and placements. Our cosmetic dentist can suggest which material is best suited to your needs and goals during your appointment. CEREC® restorations offer a variety of benefits, including:
- Natural-looking results
- Stain-resistant materials
- Durable restorations that require less removal of healthy tooth structure
- Biocompatible restorations that typically do not cause adverse reactions
- Dental treatment, restoration fabrication, and placement can often be completed in one visit
- 3D dental scans that eliminate the need for traditional molds
- No need for temporary crowns
- Fully customized treatment
If you are wondering if a same-day CEREC® restoration may be right for restoring your damaged tooth, we encourage you to contact South River Dentistry.
The CEREC® Restoration Process
The first step in restoring your tooth with the CEREC® system starts with an x-ray of the treatment area. These images will indicate how much of the tooth needs to be removed to restore dental health. Dr. Blackburn will then anesthetize the area and remove the unhealthy portion of the tooth, preparing the tooth for the restoration. Next, the CEREC® optical unit scans the treatment area and creates a 3D model of the tooth. From there, Dr. Blackburn is able to design a custom crown, inlay, or onlay to complete the form and structure of your affected tooth. The information is then transferred to the CEREC® milling equipment, and your restoration is crafted while you wait. Finally, the restoration is adjusted to achieve an optimal fit and then cemented in place for a long-lasting bond.
Results with CEREC®
Results with CEREC® are convenient, natural-looking, and long-lasting. The majority of patients appreciate saving time with the CEREC® system and most are unable to discern any difference between the quality of lab-made and CEREC® restorations. The materials available for CEREC® fabrication have made the results extremely durable and realistic.
